You've probably heard of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicators (MBTI) and may have even taken the test while a student as part of assessing which careers your personality type might be most suited to. MBTI's are really just a way of developing self-awareness of your personality -- whether you're a combination of extroversion, intuition, feeling and judging (ENFJ, an educator-type), for instance, or some other combination. They shouldn't be used for too much more than that. But, recently, Domino took a look at what these various MBTI's might mean about color and whether the psychology of color in connection with MBTI's could point to "perfect" paint colors to suit various personality types.
Now, really, it's not clear that a specific personality is more inclined to function better with certain colors than with others. But, given that choosing paint colors is already such a challenge for many, including professional designers, it doesn't hurt to consider personality as one aspect of the process of selecting colors for various rooms in your home or office. It shouldn't be the only consideration of course. And, you probably would want to use more than just a single color in your home, especially since rooms have different functions and moods, and not all colors feel right for certain functions. For instance, you might not want a rose-colored kitchen just because that's the color that supposedly fits well with your MBTI. Natural lighting, the function of the space to be painted, and other factors all need to be considered also, of course. Just as a personality type can be successful at many different types of careers, regardless of MBTI, there's no hard and fast rules about which colors are best either.
In a nutshell, here's Domino's take on the Myers-Briggs personality types and the best paint colors for each. For the details, see the Domino article. Find yours and have some fun!
